The Centro Comunitario La Boca attempts to celebrate the neighborhood’s industrial past while creating a space for the community to be proud of. It is comprised of educational and recreation spaces that serve the people of the nearby villa. Inspired by the site’s relationship to the highway and the sand silo, I attempted to mimic the forms tectonically, creating an extension of this heavy, industrial presence currently on the site. This heaviness of materials and form is contrasted by the bright colors and public program that lighten up the space socially and artistically.
